unless explicitly bound to a readline command, instead of inserting
|
stray characters into the editing buffer. This is unbound by default,
|
but usually bound to ESC-[.

the characters in <code>comment-begin</code> are deleted from the beginning of

the line.

In either case, the line is accepted as if a newline had been typed.
